RegCheck API — Beta & Bespoke Features

Beta and bespoke API endpoints are available at https://www.regcheck.org.uk/api/bespokeapi.asmx. These endpoints may be subject to change and are less frequently tested than the main API. All use the same SOAP/ASMX interface and username-based authentication as the main API, unless otherwise noted.

Calling the endpoints

Every endpoint can be called with SOAP, or with a plain HTTP GET or POST using the operation name in the path:

Vehicle-style endpoints return a Vehicle object containing both vehicleJson (a JSON string) and vehicleData (the same core data as XML), in the same way as the main API. The samples below show the vehicleJson content. Insurance, stolen and valuation endpoints return their own XML schemas, shown in each section.

UK Minimal Lookup — CheckUKMinimal

A reduced-field UK vehicle lookup at half the standard credit cost.

Parameters: regNumber, username

Fields returned: Description, RegistrationYear, CarMake, CarModel, MakeDescription, ModelDescription, EngineSize, BodyStyle, FuelType, Variant, Colour, VehicleIdentificationNumber, KType, EngineNumber, ImageUrl.

Isle of Man — CheckIOM

Returns vehicle details, tax status and tax expiry for plates registered in the Isle of Man.

Parameters: regNumber, username

Australia Extensive — CheckAustraliaExtensive

An extended Australian vehicle lookup that adds VIN, engine code, cylinders and drive type to the standard data. Requires registration number and state.

Parameters: RegistrationNumber, State (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, TAS, ACT, NT), username

Fields returned: Description, RegistrationYear, CarMake, MakeDescription, ModelDescription, BodyStyle, Fuel, Colour, VechileIdentificationNumber, Engine, Cylinders, EngineCode, Drive, Expiry, State, ImageUrl.

Note: responses can take 30 seconds or more, so allow a client timeout of at least 60 seconds.

France (Alternative) — CheckFrance

An alternative data source for French vehicle lookups, separate from the CheckFrance method on the main API. Includes an ExtendedData block with SRA classification, CNIT, KType, CO2 and engine details.

EngineSize here is the French fiscal horsepower (CV); the engine capacity in cc is in ExtendedData.EngineCC.

Motorbike — France — CheckMotorBikeFrance

Returns vehicle details for motorbikes registered in France. The response format is the same as CheckFrance above, and the endpoint also accepts car plates.

Motorbike — Spain — CheckMotorBikeSpain

Returns vehicle details for motorbikes registered in Spain. The endpoint also accepts car plates; the VehicleType field indicates which was found.

Returns vehicle details for motorbikes registered in Italy (format: 2 letters + 5 digits, e.g. FS45635).

If the plate is not found, the endpoint currently returns an HTTP 500 error rather than an empty result.

Insurance Status — Italy — CheckInsuranceStatusItaly

Returns current insurance status for an Italian-registered vehicle.

Parameters: regNumber, username

Fields returned: Company (insurer), Expiry (dateTime), IsInsured (boolean), Region (province code).

If no insurance record is found, the response contains only <Expiry>0001-01-01T00:00:00</Expiry> and <IsInsured>false</IsInsured>. Treat this as "no record found" rather than as confirmation that the vehicle is uninsured.

Insurance Status — Italy (with Vehicle Type) — CheckInsuranceStatusItalyWithVehicleType

As above, but accepts an explicit vehicleType parameter to distinguish cars, motorbikes, etc.

Parameters: regNumber, vehicleType (e.g. A), username

Fields returned: Company, Expiry, IsInsured, Region — same schema and sample as CheckInsuranceStatusItaly.

Insurance Status — Poland — CheckInsuranceStatusPoland

Returns current insurance policy details for a Polish-registered vehicle, including whether the vehicle is blacklisted.

Stolen Vehicle Check — CheckStolen

Checks police databases in Italy, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Romania for stolen vehicle records. Accepts a VIN.

Parameters: vinNumber, username

Returns: a list of Name/Value pairs. For a stolen vehicle these are: Vehicle ID (VIN), License Plate Number, Make, Model, on (the date the theft was recorded) and Database (the police database the record came from).

If the VIN is not found in any stolen-vehicle database, the endpoint returns HTTP 200 with an empty list:

An empty list means no stolen record was found in the databases checked. It does not guarantee that the vehicle has not been stolen elsewhere.

USA Dynamic — CheckUSADynamic

Car Valuation — CheckPrice

Returns a CAP-based private resale price for UK vehicles.

VIN Recall Check — CheckRecalledVIN

🛠️ Under maintenance. This endpoint is temporarily unavailable.

Checks whether a VIN has been subject to a manufacturer recall. No username required.

Parameters: vin only (no username parameter).

Returns: a string.

Implementation Notes

• All bespoke endpoints are SOAP/ASMX like the main API, and also accept plain HTTP GET and POST requests (see "Calling the endpoints" above).
• Authentication uses the same username parameter as the main API, except CheckRecalledVIN, which requires no authentication.
• Vehicle-style endpoints return both vehicleJson and vehicleData. The insurance, stolen-vehicle and valuation endpoints each return their own schema:
  • Italy insurance (both variants): InsuranceDetails — Company, Expiry, IsInsured, Region.
  • Poland insurance: InsurancePolicy — PolicyNumber, Vehicle, Company, Address, IsBlacklisted.
  • Portugal insurance: Insurance — Company, StartDate, EndDate, Policy.
  • Stolen check: ArrayOfNameValue — a list of Name/Value pairs.
  • Valuation: Valuation — Description, Price.
• Errors are returned as HTTP 500 with a plain-text message. Messages include:
  • Your username is incorrect
  • API restricted to authorised accounts only
  • a lookup-failure message such as Italian lookup failed or USA Lookup failed
• Some endpoints can take 10–40 seconds to respond; set client timeouts accordingly.
• These endpoints may be added to, changed, or removed without notice.
